Executive summary

Problems were experienced with water in the fuel and sludge production when the fuel was cleaned using a centrifugal separator. Sludge had to be separated into water and fuel oil, with water discharged through the bilge water separator and sludge burned in an incinerator.

After installing CJC® Filter Separator and Fine Filter solutions on the main engines, water was removed continuously from the fuel, sludge production was eliminated and the working environment in the engine room was significantly improved.

Simplifying fuel and lube oil cleaning

After installation of the CJC® Filter Separator and Fine Filters, there was no more sludge production and water was removed continuously from the fuel. Burning of sludge generated by the centrifugal separator was no longer needed, and the bilge water separator was only used to separate bilge water.

The filtration units consist of pumps, a built-in water separator and oil filters, making the system easy to inspect and maintain.

Measurable results and operational impact

Installing CJC® Oil and Diesel Filter solutions eliminated sludge problems, removed diesel pest (microbes) and improved the working environment in the engine room. Maintenance was simplified, as engineers only needed to visually inspect the pressure gauges on the oil and fuel filters, and replacement of CJC® Filter Inserts including clean-up took approximately one hour.

“We are very happy with the fuel and lube oil filters. This is many times better and cheaper than separators. And this makes the daily working environment for the engineers in the engine room much better.”
