Executive summary

Problems were identified in the hydraulic control system of the main engine, and oil analysis showed high contamination with water and particles in the hydraulic oil.

After installation of a CJC® Fine Filter on the hydraulic system, particles, oil degradation and water were removed from the oil and no further failures were reported. Identical oil filters were subsequently installed on the other seven ships of the same class.

Restoring engine cleanliness with offline fine filtration

After installation of the CJC® Fine Filter, the system operated continuously on the main engine. After 18 days and 70 engine running hours, an oil sample was sent for independent analysis.

The results confirmed a rapid reduction in insolubles, while physical inspection showed that accumulated sludge inside the engine had already started to disappear.

Measurable results and operational impact

The installation of the CJC® Fine Filter removed particles, oil degradation and water from the hydraulic oil and ensured that the requirements of the ME-hydraulic system were met. The convincing results prompted Hapag-Lloyd to install identical filters on the other seven ships of this class, confirming the effectiveness of the solution.

“Nothing but the installation of the CJC® Fine Filters enabled us to meet the requirements of the ME-hydraulic system.”
